Robert Fenster, MD, PhD

Assistant Program Director

Robert Fenster, MD, PhD, serves as the Assistant Director for the Physician Scientist Training Program (PSTP) at the MGH/McLean Adult Psychiatry Residency and is a neuroscientist and psychiatrist based at McLean hospital. Dr. Fenster received his A.B. summa cum laude from Harvard University and completed his M.D.-Ph.D at the Tri-Institutional Program at Weill Cornell Medical College and The Rockefeller University, where he performed his thesis work on cell-type specific transcriptional profiling of Huntington’s Disease mouse models in the laboratory of Dr. Paul Greengard. Dr. Fenster completed his psychiatry residency at Brown University, where he participated in the R25 program, performing research in the laboratory of Dr. Myriam Heiman at The Broad Institute. Dr. Fenster is currently an Instructor at Harvard Medical School working with Dr. Kerry Ressler where he uses cutting-edge molecular technologies to investigate prefrontal cortical circuitry involved in fear extinction processes. He covers clinically in the Behavioral Health Partial Program at McLean and serves as a psychodynamic psychotherapist in his own small private practice and at the Pavilion.
