McLean Hospital
After its founding in 1811, the first mission of the Massachusetts General Hospital was to offer clinical services to the mentally ill. From its beginning, the psychiatric Asylum of the MGH, later renamed the McLean Asylum, offered world-renowned residential care.
Our History
For 200 years McLean has led the way in humane psychiatric care, scientific discovery, professional training, and public education.
Today McLean is the flagship mental health hospital of Harvard Medical School and Mass General Brigham (formerly MGH, Partners HealthCare), Boston’s leading health care system.
