The MGH/McLean Hospital Psychiatry Residency Program had an incredibly impact on me both professionally and personally. My time in training, support from my mentors, and deep relationships with my fellow residents allowed me to become the type of physician I dreamed to be. I look forward to working alongside, developing, and advocating for the next generation of psychiatrists as clinicians, educators, and scholars. I am thrilled to be a part of this residency family!

Elizabeth Madva, MD

Associate Program Director

I loved my experiences as both a resident at MGH/McLean and C-L fellow at MGH and am thrilled to now be a part of the residency’s program director team. Working with and supporting residents is one of the greatest joys of my role. My hope is to provide and facilitate the same invaluable mentorship and support that I was so fortunate to receive in my training.

This residency helped me accomplish the career goals I set for myself prior to matching, and more than that it has helped me discover new passions that have enriched my work with robust meaning and joy. I feel immensely grateful for the outstanding mentorship and sponsorship I have received, and I am thrilled to remain part of the community to keep the tradition going.

Welcome to the MGH/McLean Hospital Psychiatry Residency Program! It is a true pleasure and a privilege for all of us to have the opportunity of training the next generation of psychiatrists. Our program has a reputation for hard work and high levels of intensity and expectations. I would encourage you to be daring during your training. Henry David Thoreau once said: “Go confidently in the direction of your dreams. Live the life you have imagined.” One of the exciting things in our professional lives is that we can always find new things to try or to change. There are great opportunities for us to innovate and make things better. In doing so, we may sometimes fail. However, as Nelson Mandela said, “We should not be judged by our successes, but instead by how many times we have fallen down and gotten back up again.” We are really excited that you are considering joining our community and hope to have the opportunity to train you.

Scott L. Rauch, MD
